For sometime now I’ve been working on small tools (or utilities if you’d like to call them that), to accomplish small tasks. Calculating BMI or percentages, to logging work hours and a few more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be honest these are not new ideas, but pretty much every calculation website I’ve stumbled across is either filled with ads, has a terrible interface or requires an account and for some all three apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now I wanted to build tools that I would use myself as well, so let me humbly introduce you to https:\/\/dab.tools\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I want to go through some things that I set out to do, so it make’s it more private, friendly & warm and as out of the your way as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your Data stays private and stays on your device or vanishes away<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Everything runs locally in your browser. No servers, no tracking scripts, no sign-up forms. You open the tool, do your calculation, and close the tab. Boom bada boom.. poof.. That\u2019s it. Even the Zakat calculator \u2013 which lets you split payments into monthly installments and export spreadsheets \u2013 keeps everything on your machine. No cloud, no surprises. the moment you close the tab or window.. it vanishes to obscurity.. thats unless you’ve exported for yourself, then you have a copy which you can later import if you ever need to modify it, or do next years calculation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve completely cut off data mining. No Google Analytics, no Google Ads, not even Google reCaptcha for Contact or bug reports or feature requests. I use a self hosted version of umami.is<\/a> which doesn’t capture user data or does user profiling at all, and altcha.org<\/a> for Captcha, again no profile, no data storage.. you stay anonymous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If and when I do put ads or decide on a monetization model, it will be privacy focused so your data is just.. yours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the time being I have 3 category of tools<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • General – Tools that are everyday use and vary from simple percentage calculations to work hours logging, age or timespan calculations and a Body Mass Index calculator. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Financial – Currency Converter along with Gold and Silver rates<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Islamic – Zakat Calculator and a HIjri Date converter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Of course each of these have their own roadmap and will be nurtured with the users and their privacy in mind. There will also be other tools built and made part of the suite over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For the kind of tools I m offering I don’t see the point of charging users for the service. As such this has no “Pro” version, I built this first and foremost for myself and now I have opened it to the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    So if you find it useful, thats great and I m glad I could be of some use to you, if however you don’t all you’ve got to do is close the tab\/window. No account to delete, no data removal requests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For some of the tools I built I might do a deep dive later as well, I have one on Zakat calculator partially written, which I will get into a bit later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
